Munich and the Spiegeltent

Had a really lovely day in Munich today. Started with a typical Bavarian breakfast (and my favourite) of Weisswurst and pretzels at the Augustinerkeller. Served with sweet mustard and sparkling apple juice (normally beer, but that’s a bit much first thing!) We then did a bit of shopping, including Ludwig Becks, Oberpollinger and the Viktualienmarkt.

However, the real highlight of the day was the evening’s entertainments. Schuhbeck’s Teatro is amazing. We pulled up in front of a fairly temporary and simple facade, but once through the doors everything was covered in plush red velvets. Tables were arranged around the centre of the Spiegeltent with a central stage area.

Alfons Schuhbeck is a bit of a celebrity chef in Germany. I’ve seen books by him and visited his spice store in Munich. He’s won 2 Michelin stars and was elected Cook of the Year in 1989 by the French Gault Millau restaurant guide. So good grub was certainly to be expected!

Throughout the night we were entertained by jugglers, clowns, singers, magicians and acrobats. It was all a wonderful evening and one that I’d certainly recommend.
