Sunday April 17 2011 Starting the dinosaur hat today. Have decided to make the 6mth-2yr size as we’ve no idea how big my new nephew’s head will be when he’s born and it will have the advantage of still hopefully fitting him when his first winter arrives next year.

Am using DK weight yarn instead of worsted so have gone up a couple of hook sizes. My swatching says that 5.5mm hook should work to give me gauge.

Monday April 25 2011 Finished the beanie part. Have used considerably less rows in the repeat round – 5 when pattern called for 9-19!. Frankly rather concerned about the finished size.

The Louisa Harding is noticeably finer than the Debbie Bliss, was worried about my edging being too open but I think it’s OK. Have gone down to a size 4.5 hook to make the spikes.

Not happy with the first spike I made using the pattern – would take 2.5 to fill the space and they’re far too shallow. Also, the way that they’re finishing just won’t work (very irritating) Have found another spike pattern which works perfectly TheBoyTrifecta.com The really annoying thing is that I thought I was buying a complete and well done pattern – I’m happy to support designers by buying their patterns but I do expect the pattern to make the item shown in the photograph.

Thursday April 29 2011 Finished! I ended up stuffing my spikes with the ends of the yarn and then sewed them in with a fresh bit. Very very pleased with it, will get photos up shortly.

Wednesday May 4 2011 OK, finally got the details of this one posted here. I’m extremely chuffed with it!
